The Convenor and Tribunal Board is looking to recruit a new Chair of the Board as Jon Beausire steps down.

The Board is the independent body that supports the Office of the Children’s Convenor and the Child Youth and Community Tribunal. It consists of up to eight members, one of whom holds the position of Chair.

The Board provides leadership, direction, support and guidance to ensure the System delivers its collective functions effectively and efficiently, and Members work closely and collaboratively with the Children’s Convenor and President of the Tribunal, providing advice and support as required.

It is also responsible for liaising closely with Deputies and Civil Servants as part of the wider child welfare system to ensure that the Children’s Convenor, President of the Tribunal and the Child, Youth and Community Tribunal have the resources they need to carry out their duties in accordance with the Law.

Appointed by the Committee for Health & Social Care on the recommendation of the current Board, the Chair must have knowledge and experience relevant to the functions of the System and will hold their position for an initial period of three years.

While ensuring that the Children’s Convenor and President of the Tribunal have the resources available to perform their statutory functions, the Chair is directly responsible for leading Board meetings (up to six per annum) and making sure that the Board undertakes its duties effectively.

Outgoing Chair Jon Beausire has been part of the Children’s Tribunal System since 2008, having trained as one of the original Tribunal Members. He then went on to join the Board, and was elected Chair in 2024.

As Jon steps down in order to spend more time with his children and grandchildren, he is looking to pass the role on to someone passionate about improving the lives of children and young people.

“It’s been an absolute honour to serve our community as Chair of the Convenor and Tribunal Board. The Chair of any Board plays a key leadership role, and it’s important that we find the right person who shares our values and commitment to children and young people across the Bailiwick. This could be someone with prior Board experience - perhaps someone who has sat on Boards as part of their professional life but now wants to do so from an altruistic perspective. Alternatively, it might be someone who has worked with children and young people, say in a teaching or social work role, and would still like to contribute but in a slightly more hands off way.

“Either way, we look forward to hearing from interested parties as everyone who is part of the System continues with its mission.”

Those interested in carrying on the mission of the Children's Tribunal System forward, please send your CV with a covering letter to the Office of the Children’s Convenor at Briarwood, La Grande Rue, St Martins, GY4 6RX or apply via email to [email protected] by 31 October 2025 and further details of the role can be found here.
