Ashley Rawles has been appointed as the Chair of the Children’s Convenor and Tribunal Board, an essential part of the Children’s Tribunal Service.

The Board is an independent body that provides the Children’s Convenor and the President of the Child, Youth and Community Tribunal with strategic advice, guidance, and support to help them fulfil their statutory responsibilities. Board Members are appointed by the Committee for Health & Social Care and must bring knowledge and experience relevant to the functions of the Children’s Tribunal Service.

Ashley brings nearly 15 years of hands-on experience within the Children’s Tribunal System. Her involvement began in 2012, when she was appointed by the Royal Court to serve as a Tribunal Member. During her time in this role, she participated in more than 400 Tribunal Hearings, ensuring that decisions were made in the best interests of children and young people requiring protection, guidance, or support.

In 2019, Ashley was appointed President of the Child, Youth and Community Tribunal, a role she held until 2025. As President, she coordinated the work of the Tribunal Members, oversaw regular training and development and worked closely with the Children’s Convenor and the Board to ensure the Tribunal continued to operate effectively and compassionately. Her leadership helped strengthen a system designed to keep children and young people at the centre of every decision.

Reflecting on her appointment, Ashley said: “It is an honour to take on the role of Chair and to continue supporting a system that places children and young people at its heart. Having worked within the Tribunal for many years, I have seen first-hand the dedication of our volunteers and professionals. I look forward to working with the rest of the Board, the Children’s Convenor, and the Tribunal to ensure we continue to uphold the highest standards of care, fairness, and child-centred practice.”

Deputy Chair Gill Couch welcomed Ashley’s appointment: “Ashley’s commitment to the welfare of children and young people is exceptional. Her extensive experience within the Tribunal System, combined with her integrity and compassion, makes her ideally placed to lead the Board. I am delighted to continue working with her given her deep understanding of the system and her ongoing dedication to ensuring every child’s voice is heard.”
