The role of the Children’s Convenor and Child Youth and Community Tribunal in protecting children from harm and promoting their health, welfare and development.
This course provides an understanding of the role of the Children’s Convenor and Child, Youth and Community Tribunal (CYCT), so that delegates will be better equipped to decide whether or not to refer a child to the Children’s Convenor and to explain to children and families involved in CYCT proceedings what is happening and what to expect.
Course Aim:
This course provides an understanding of the role of the Children’s Convenor and Child, Youth and Community Tribunal (CYCT), so that delegates will be better equipped to decide whether or not to refer a child to the Children’s Convenor and to explain to children and families involved in CYCT proceedings what is happening and what to expect.
Learning objectives
To gain a better understanding of the following:
• the ethos of the CYCT system
• the key principles that underpin the Children Law in Guernsey
• the legal framework and decision making
• the role of the Convenor and CYCT
• when to make a referral and the process of referral
To understand where the Convenor and CYCT sit within the wider system for the protection of children
An additional half day session is under development at the moment for practitioners who will be routinely providing reports and information to hearings of the CYCT or attending hearings.
