The System is looking for islanders passionate about improving the lives of children and young people

The Convenor and Tribunal Board is looking to recruit several Board Members to fill vacancies that will arise during 2024.

The Convenor and Tribunal Board is the independent body that supports the Office of the Children’s Convenor and the Child Youth and Community Tribunal (CYCT). It consists of up to eight members, one of whom holds the position of Chair.

The Board provides leadership, direction, support and guidance to ensure the System delivers its collective functions effectively and efficiently, and Members work closely and collaboratively with the Children’s Convenor and President, providing advice and support as required.

It is also responsible for liaising closely with Deputies and Civil Servants as part of the wider child welfare system to ensure that the Children’s Convenor, President of the Tribunal and the Child, Youth and Community Tribunal have the resources they need to carry out their duties in accordance with the Law.

Appointed by the Committee for Health & Social Care, Board Members must have knowledge and experience relevant to the functions of the System and will hold their position for an initial period of three years.

While the three vacancies are coming up at various points throughout 2024, the System is looking for one of the new appointments to be considered for the role of Chair, as Jane St Pier ends her tenure in the role later this year in September 2024.

Gill Couch, a Board Member since 2015 and previous Chair, is leading the call for new members: “We are looking for individuals who are passionate about improving the lives of children and young people who are eager to support the work of the Children’s Convenor and Child, Youth and Community Tribunal (CYCT) and who, ultimately, want to make a positive contribution to public service.

“While you do not need to have Board or Committee experience, it’s important that we find people with the right knowledge and experience relevant to the functions of the Children’s Convenor, those willing to learn and, most importantly, those who share our values and commitment to children and young people across the Bailiwick.”

If you are interested in being considered, please send your CV with a covering letter to the Office of the Children’s Convenor at Briarwood, La Grande Rue, St Martins, GY4 6RX or apply via email to [email protected] by Monday 26 February 2024.
