St Martins road closures - Briarwood access

Read all news

Access to Briarwood is likely to be affected by upcoming road closures by Guernsey Electricity, outlined below:

On September 9, Guernsey Electricity will begin a project to upgrade the electricity infrastructure in St Martins, focusing on the junction linking Fort Road, Fermain Lane, Route de Sausmarez and Les Hubits.

This work is critical to ensuring we can continue providing a secure and reliable supply of electricity to local homes and businesses long into the future.

Unfortunately, it means that for 10 weeks over a 13 week period, Fort Road / Route de Sausmarez will be closed between Rue de Putron and Le Varclin.

We fully appreciate that a closure of this size and duration will be disruptive and this is not a decision we have taken lightly, especially so soon after our work in Grande Rue.

The work will be completed in two phases:

  • Phase 1: 9 September – 20 October

Works at the Fermain Lane / Route de Sausmarez junction, including the construction of a new substation, installation of new high and low voltage cable ducting, and other enabling works.

Work on the road will then pause for approximately three weeks, as we continue working off the public highway. The junction will be open as usual for traffic during this period.

  • Phase 2: 9 November – 30 November

The road will close again, as we undertake final works to connect the new equipment into the wider electricity network and decommissioning of the old equipment.
